Why
Use a Creep to Failure Test?
A
Creep test, not a Burst test
Useful for Variable Data Analysis
Provides Over/Under Sealing Information
I
would like to introduce you to an enhanced Creep
test that we have designed. It is called a Creep
to Failure test.
In
this test a value of pressure is chosen for a
Creep test that is above the normal Creep pressure,
but less than the ultimate or Burst pressure.
In choosing this pressure you want the package
to rupture within the Time period of the test.
This
Graph shows the Pressure vs Time relationship.
You can see that this test has the nature of a
Creep test in that a constant pressure is applied
to the package seal. The package seal will rupture
at a given time. This Time of Failure then can
be used as the variable in the analysis of seal
strength of the package. For example, if the normal
mean Time of Failure is 10 seconds, then if Time
values become shorter the package seals are weaker.
If the Time of Failure is longer than the mean,
then the package seals are stronger.
Using
the Time of Failure as a variable statistic then
lends itself to statistical analysis for SQC.
A mean Time of Failure can be established with
a standard deviation and algorithms can be used
to establish Control Charts for process control
analysis.
